The Last Emperor

Fedor "seminaire" avec Jacare et Mousasi

So many things happening here: First off, I loved what Fedor said about takedowns. American wrestling is effective, but exhausting. There is little economy of movement in a strong double leg. The method Fedor demonstrates maximizes his chances of success with minimal energy expelled. Also, a well executed throw puts the thrower in a very dominant position. A well executed double leg, puts the top man in the guard of his opponent. In terms of positional hierarchy, top full guard is
barely better than neutral.

Secondly, Fedor's balance is inhuman.
That was JACARE he was rag-dolling. I am a huge Jacare fan and I would never have believed anyone could toss him around like that.

Third is Fedor's size. Jacare is a typical middle weight. He probable walks around at 215 pounds. And he dwarfs Fedor. Yet Fedor dominates the biggest fighters in the sport 97% of the time he steps on the mat.

The fourth thing I noticed, and possibly the thing that impressed me most, was Fedor's footwork. He
closes the distance faster than anyone in MMA and he does so with technical perfection. If there is a striker on the planet that would give Anderson Silva fits, it is Fedor Emelianenko.

Item five on my list, is Fedors unique punching style. It translates perfectly into his ground and pound. Every punch thrown is whipped out there in picturesque casting punch style. Casting punches are difficult to throw standing. They involve the hips and back like a strong hand, western boxing, jab. Then the Soviets added in the multiplier of a whip through shoulder, elbow and wrist movement. I could study Fedor throwing punches for hours, and hours, and still not be able to duplicate his technique.
